WESV Vest & Skirt

WESV Vest & Skirt

The WESV Vest evenly transfers its weight from the shoulders to the waist area. It attaches to the body with a velcro on the left-hand shoulder area and Velcro waist straps on the front. The velcro fasteners are high quality hoop and loop fasteners with a long life span. The vest features an elastic rear fastener at the back for a better fit. It comes with padded shoulders. A standard thyroid collar is included. An integrated thyroid shield is optional.

The WESV Skirt protects the lower body region. It achieves the lead equivalence (0.50mm Pb or 0.35mm Pb) by fully overlapping on the front side.  You can choose between an elastic back part attached at the outside of the skirt or an integrated elastic rear preventing the skirt from shifting and sliding during use. A buckle also secures the skirt on the right-hand side of the front waist area.

The WESV Vest and Skirt style is available in three protection materials:

  • Light weight lead (Vector X),
  • Light weight, lead free,
  • Lead.

And in two protection thicknesses:

0.50mm Pb:

  • Vest: 0.50mm Pb at front, 0.25mm Pb overlap at rear (0.125mm Pb each rear flap).
  • Skirt: 0.50mm Pb at frontal overlap (0.25mm Pb each front flap), 0.25mm Pb at rear

0.35mm Pb

  • Vest: 0.35mm Pb at front, 0.25mm Pb overlap at rear (0.125mm Pb each rear flap)
  • Skirt: 0.35mm Pb at frontal overlap (0.175mm Pb each front flap), 0.25mm Pb at rear.

Embroidery options: Your name/ department or logo can be stitched in two locations - on the shoulder or on a vest pocket. We also offer embroidery on the thyroid collar.

All aprons, selected accessories and patient protection products are available in three protection materials that differ in weight and materials.

Protection material: Vector X

  • Is the lightest low lead protection material, only available through Medical Index;
  • Which is Made of lead, antimony and bismuth using a true bilayer construction;
  • Best suited for long medical procedures, e.g. in Catheter Labs and Theatres;
  • Tested to the lead equivalent (0.35mm & 0.50mm) by independent institutions.
  • Passes current (AS/ NZS 4543.3:2000) and new international standard (IEC 61331-3:2014) requiring aprons to be tested against a full range of kV (50kV to 150 kV).
  • Is the first light low lead that has been independently certified and tested to the lead equivalents 0.35mm & 0.50mm to cover radiation scatter and absorbed dose between 50kV to 150kV (IEC 61331-3:2014).

Protection material: Lead free

  • Is a light – same as Vector X – but lead free protection material which is purely made of antimony and bismuth;
  • Is best suited for mid and long medical procedures, e.g. Theatres;
  • Is tested to the lead equivalent 0.35mm & 0.50mm by independent institutions.
  • Meets the current standard (AS/NZS 4543.3:2000)
  • Passes new international standards (IEC 61331-3:2014) requiring aprons to be tested against a full range of kV (50kV to 150 kV).
  • It is the first light lead free material that has been independently certified and tested to the lead equivalents 0.35mm & 0.50mm to cover radiation scatter and absorbed dose between 50kV to 150kV (IEC 61331-3:2014).

Protection material: Lead

  • Is a traditional weight lead protective material for individuals who occasionally conduct short medical procedures, e.g. Veterinarian and dental applications;
  • Is also used where lead is the only option for safest radiation protection, e.g. Nuclear medicine;
  • Tested to the lead equivalent (0.35mm & 0.50mm) by independent institutions
  • Meets the current standard (AS/NZS 4543.3:2000)
  • Passes new international standards (IEC 61331-3:2014) requiring aprons to be tested against a full range of kV (50kV to 150 kV).

The weight guide presents approximate weights in kilograms and a lead equivalency of 0.50mm Pb at front and 0.25mm Pb at rear. Generally, the apron weight depends on several variables such as:

  • Chosen apron style – partly or fully covered
  • Chosen lead equivalency – 0.50mm Pb/ 0.35mm Pb/ 0.25mm Pb
  • Chosen apron length depending on individual height of person
  • Deutsch Medical’s apron length is below the knee, whereas other brands offer above the knee
  • Chosen protection material and fabric
  • Sizing dimensions of supplier/ brand – e.g. our sizing is bigger and more generous in comparison to other brands
